VISDOM Auto Redline
03. Admin User Manual › VISDOM & Risk Management › VISDOM Auto Redline
Note: Each procedure in this guide begins at the Contract Insight homepage, so any section can be followed on its own. Custom fields are configurable, so the exact field list on a contract category record may vary between environments.
1. Overview
The Compare documents screen, reached from a record's Attachments & Templates tab, is the application's automatic redlining tool. It lets a user pick any two of a record's documents — different versions of the same file, or two entirely different attached files, including a mix of .docx, .pdf, and .html — as Original and Revised, then click Compare to see a word-by-word diff: struck-through red text marks what was removed from the original, highlighted green text marks what was added in the revised copy, and unchanged text is shown from the revised copy. A summary line (for example, "13 words added and 16 words removed between these two documents") gives an at-a-glance change count before scrolling the full comparison.
2. Key Elements
- Compare documents button: on a record's Attachments & Templates tab, in the Files / Attachments panel below Download all. Opens the comparison screen for that record.
- Original and Revised drop-downs: list every document and every saved version attached to the record, shown as file name (version · upload date · uploaded by). Any file type (.docx, .doc, .pdf, .html) can be chosen on either side.
- Swap button (⇆): switches the Original and Revised selections.
- Compare: runs the word-by-word comparison and displays the redline.
- Download as tracked changes: downloads the comparison as a Word document with tracked changes. Available only when both selected documents are Word files.
- Summary line: shows how many words were added and removed, or No differences when both documents contain exactly the same words.
- Legend: struck-through red text was removed from the original, highlighted green text was added in the revised copy, and unchanged text is shown from the revised copy.
3. Opening the Compare Documents Screen
- From the Contract Insight homepage, hover over the Requests/Contracts icon in the left navigation bar.
- Select Contracts.

- On the Contracts list, locate the record (use the Search box if needed) and click Manage.

- On the record, click the Attachments & Templates tab.
- In the Files / Attachments panel, click Compare documents.

Note: The Compare documents screen lists only the documents attached to the record it was opened from. Both files (or both versions) being compared must be attached to the same record.
4. Comparing Two Documents
- From the Original drop-down, select the baseline document or version.
- From the Revised drop-down, select the document or version to compare against it. This can be a later version of the same file or a different file, including a different file type.
- Click Compare.

Tip: To reverse the direction of the comparison, click the Swap button (⇆) between the two drop-downs, then click Compare again.
5. Reviewing the Results
- Check the summary line above the document for the number of words added and removed (for example, "9 words added and 5 words removed between these two documents").
- Use the legend below the summary line to read the comparison: struck-through red text was removed from the original, and highlighted green text was added in the revised copy.

- Scroll through the document to review each change. Removed text appears directly above or before the text that replaced it.

Note: If the two documents contain exactly the same words, a No differences message appears instead of a word count and the text is shown without markup. Because the comparison is word-based, versions that differ only in formatting also show No differences.

6. Downloading the Comparison as Tracked Changes
- Select a Word document in both the Original and Revised drop-downs.
- Click Download as tracked changes to download the comparison as a Word document with the differences shown as tracked changes.

Note: Tracked changes are a Word feature, so Download as tracked changes is available only when both documents are Word files. If either document is a PDF or another format, the button is disabled, but the on-screen redline still works.
